Cost of Class

  •  Beginner Class(8 weeks) Cost $120 including Shinai (Bamboo sword), or $40/Month if student could not meet next level requirement

  • Intermediate / Advance class $40/month per student (payment only 3month increment or annually with 1 month discount)

  • Family discount available in Intermediate and Advance class, rest of family member get 25% off (no annual discount)

Monday: Intermediate 6:00PM-6:50PM         

               Advance 7:00PM-8:45PM

​Wednesday: Beginner 6:00PM-6:50PM                     

                     Advance: 7:00PM-8:45PM​

Friday: (Tentative) Beginner/Intermediate  6:00PM-6:50PM           

            Advance: 7:00PM-9:00PM​

Beginner Class(8yrs old and Up)
(8 weeks, $120, include Shinai)

Biginner class is offering 

1. Etiquette and Mindset

In beginner kendo classes, the first thing taught is proper etiquette.

  • How to enter and leave the dojo

  • How to bow (standing and kneeling)

  • Showing respect to others

Kendo is not just about technique—it also emphasizes discipline and respect, so this part is very important.

2. Basic Posture and Footwork

Students learn the fundamentals of body movement.

  • Basic stance (chūdan-no-kamae)

  • Sliding steps (suri-ashi)

  • Moving forward and backward

These are essential foundations—if they are incorrect, everything else will suffer.

3. How to Handle the Shinai (Bamboo Sword)

Students practice safe and correct handling.

  • Proper grip (tenouchi)

  • How to raise and swing the shinai

  • Suburi (practice swings)

At first, movements are done slowly and with emphasis on correct form.

4. Basic Strikes (Men, Kote, Do)

Students learn the main striking targets.

  • Men (head)

  • Kote (wrist)

  • Do (torso)

  • Kiri-kaeshi (common basic kendo drill)

Beginners start without armor, focusing on movement.

5. Kiai (Shouting) and Timing

A unique aspect of kendo.

  • Calling out strikes like “Men!”

  • Coordinating strike with spirit, body, and sword (ki-ken-tai-itchi)

Once this is understood, movements become more “kendo-like" and ready move on to next level 

Intermediate Class 

After successfully completed Beginner class with good improvement, this is next class to attend, still no armor but you may wear traditional uniform(do-gi, hakama)

  • All basics learned in beginner class still retained 

  • More detailed focus to all technics 

Finishing this class and moving to advance class may vary by person to person.

Advance Class

Advance class offering full contact class with armor.

Practice include:

  • Counter techniques

  • Combination strike 

  • Free sparring/matches

  • Bokken(wooden sword) Form practice

  • Learning deeper theory of Kendo
